08 Nov Help! My wet room is leaking
We seem to be receiving an ever increasing amount of emails from people looking for help with leaking wet rooms. Recently we also heard from someone who we had quoted for installing a wet room a few years ago who decided to go with a cheaper competitors quote.
It is something that pains us to see as there are so many rogue traders out there, promising wet rooms at bargain prices that simply aren’t fit for purpose. A lot of them seem to get away with it because even a poorly fitted wet room can typically stay watertight for 1 to 2 years, long enough for the home owner to think they got a bargain, and also long enough for the rogue trader to be long gone.
What a lot of people don’t realise is that tile and grout that are used to finish most bathrooms is porous. This means that over the medium term they are not sufficient on their own to make a wet room. This is the reason we are seeing so many wet room failures that were installed 2 years ago only coming home to roost now.
When people call us to fix wet rooms, we are also seeing that sometimes we aren’t the first company they have called. They have had other people come and try and ‘fix’ the leaking wet room. This typically involves them trying to patch one section of the room. This approach might buy the homeowner a bit of time, and lull them into a false sense of security but invariably still fails.
